of the hepatic anlage (Fraser, 1952) or by further branching of the foregut diverticulum (Ashby, 1969). Accessory lobes may be attached to the liver by a pedicle of the liver tissue or by a mesentery (Johnstone, 1965). For the accessory lobe to be viable it should have the hepatic artery, hepatic vein, portal vein and bile duct, which usually communicate through the liver, but occasionally may have extrahepatic connection as in the present case. All reported cases of this phenomenon, and their symptoms, are summarized in Table 1. Late presentation is due to gradual worsening of the circulation in the lobe. All the six cases reported were diagnosed at operation. Pre-operative diagnosis can be made by using one or more techniques of pneumoperitoneum, percutaneous hepatic cholangiography, splenic portography, regional arteriography, coelioscopy and scintillation scanning (Omanik and Jablonsky, 1972; Llorente and Dardik, 1971). Hepatitis B virus and polymyalgia rheumatica: a search for HBsAg, HBsAb, HBcAb, HBeAg, and HBeAb.
Forty-three consecutive patients with polymyalgia rheumatica were studied for serological markers of actual or previous hepatitis B virus infection. Signs of active virus replication, which include HBsAg supported by the presence of HBeAg and anti-HBc in high titres, were not found in any cases. Anti-HBs, a serological sign of previous hepatitis B virus exposure, was present in 16.8%. The preva...
متن کاملPeripheral arterial disease in polymyalgia rheumatica
Patients with polymyalgia rheumatica have been shown to have an increased risk of peripheral arterial disease on longitudinal follow-up. Possible explanations for this include premature atherosclerosis related to chronic inflammation, as with other inflammatory rheumatological conditions. Alternatively, polymyalgia rheumatica can be associated with vasculitis, even in the absence of clinical gi...

The clinical hallmark manifestations of polymyalgia r...
متن کاملPolymyalgia rheumatica and temporal arteritis.
There is a fairly common form of rheumatism which afflicts the elderly with pains in the head, neck, back, and proximal parts of the limbs, with stiffness of movement and with constitutional illness. It is associated with a raised sedimentation rate (E.S.R.) and a mild hypergammaglobulinaemia, and women are affected more frequently than men. There is as yet no specific test for this condition, ...
متن کاملOccurrence of polymyalgia rheumatica in rheumatoid arthritis.
Polymyalgia rheumatica and rheumatoid arthritis may be difficult to differentiate in elderly patients. Polymyalgic symptoms are common in the prodromal phase of rheumatoid arthritis and, as specific diagnostic tests do not exist for either condition, criteria for diagnosis of the diseases are based largely on clinical features. I2 The presence ofsynovitis similar to rheumatoid arthritis in some...
